So, I’d Fallen On Some Hard Times…

COVID-19 struck and put everything I had planned on the backburner. My credit being one of them.

I will admit, I let things get a little bit out of control in the past. My credit score was below 500 at one point, but I’d been working hard to get it positive again. Believe me when I say, it took a lot of commitment. Then I was put on short time because of lockdown. On top of that, my roommate’s lease was nearing its end and he was planning on moving to another state. The problem: I needed a place to stay. If you’re thinking, “why not ask your family?” forget about it. That wasn’t an option! With my credit score at 580 and my earnings temporarily reduced, I found it almost impossible to rent an apartment in Memphis.

I consider myself a private person, but the stress of finding an apartment to rent, pushed me to speak to my colleagues. As office rumors go, I knew a few of them had trouble renting, and I needed as much help as I could get.

It was our sales guy who suggested I look online for some cheap apartments for rent in Memphis. To cut a long story short, I looked at what they call “second chance apartments.” A lot of people talk about unsafe communities and such, but when I checked some of the renovated units, I was surprised.

Most of the cheap rentals I came across had up to 3 bedrooms and were located in a complex. What saved me from finding myself on the street was that places like this were actually available. So, along with my credit and my ongoing efforts to pay my debts, I think I finally see some light at the end of the tunnel.

The moral of my story, when you’re down on hard times, there’s always an open door, you just need to find it. I know I did.
